How to Position Your AI Product So It Actually Lands (GTM Edition)

Galata Tower - Best Sans Sebastian I have ever had in my life
Hello Hello!
Firstly, I had major internet issues while living it up in Istanbul last week, so this edition didn’t go out. So here we are a week later!
So yes, I am full digital nomad working from various locations. Istanbul was one of them, a city I love.
This particular topic, which I may have touched on it previously, is relevant as the theme of the contracts I am working on currently and it is all about creatively positioning AI products.
Many companies & Startups have had to take a step back in understanding how to launch their AI product with such a split of technical literacy in users & staff. There is also the concept of storytelling, because telling people this is another AI product is desensitising everyone. Especially SAAS.
Your AI tool isn’t unique because it uses LLMs or automation.
It’s unique because of who it’s for, what you help them achieve, and how you wrap it all up in a clear promise.
From a GTM standpoint, positioning = nailing clarity + focus + emotional relevance so that when people see your product, they instantly go:
“Omg, that’s for me.”

So how do we get better at it? This is actually the most exciting space for me as someone who has real strengths in creative product thinking, product development, marketing & strategy so I was excited to take these projects on!
I also feel like I’m carving a niche in my consulting services, helping you launch your AI products & features - so hit me if I can work with you. I got all the ideas & technical understanding…
For now let’s get into a formula of how we can start to uncover this topic
I’m Yasmin, I build products & people to make the world we live in better.
1. The Positioning Pyramid (for AI builders)
Who is it for?
You should have done some of this persona work and figure out the exact tee of the person to sell too
What?
What are you transforming with AI?
Why now?
Okay but why is this urgent now? Not because Chatgpt is here. Not good enough
2. Position by Problem, Not by Features
AI products often position around features like:
Chatbot
Automation
AI co-pilot
Prompt library
These aren’t positions, they’re functionalities. Instead, teach people to position around problems with clear value:
“I don’t know what to post and I’m tired of guessing.”
“My content is all over the place.”
“I have ideas, but no time to format and schedule them.”
Your product becomes the bridge.
3. The GTM Cheat Code: Narrow First, Expand Later
Most builders want to go big or wide. But big doesn’t get you traction, being narrow does and it’s hella easier.
Example GTM strategy:
Launch for online fitness coaches who sell £100/month plans
Nail copy, features, and use cases just for them
Let others self-select in after they see it working
Just because your product is built to do a lot don’t mean you need to talk about it all at once.
4. Don’t Just Say AI - Say the Shift
There are 1,000+ “AI tools” on Product Hunt. I’m actually sick of the lack of creativity in how they are being talked about
What’s more powerful is communicating what’s changed for your customer:
“From blank page to 30 days of content in 20 minutes”
“From idea to a clear marketing plan”
“From ‘I don’t have time’ to 'this just runs every Monday’”
Position around the before/after journey, that’s what sells.
2. Product Goss this week.
New Google Product - Mixboard. An experimental concepting board. You can explore ideas in a Canvas with the latest AI image model built in. Helps you create and visualise your ideas! It’s available in Google Labs so join the Discord too.
Stripe have changed the logo. Why tho? I liked the old one. Tell me your thoughts.
Ycombinator (a tech accelerator to help people build tech companies like Airbnb) launches early decision for students who want to start companies but don’t want to drop out. Interesting move!
3. Product gems that made me howl…
Leaving you with my fave gem for your thoughts…

This is an actual scenario though
& finally, am I even up to anything great for your nosy?
